Hi,

Sorry if this has been asked before but im quite new here. Is there anyway to find out the average rating of every registered user at this site? If so, how can you do it?

Thanks for the help!

Oh! Oh! I know! Go through every page of players, and write down every single rating. Then, add them all up and divide by the number of ratings. That'll give you your average. Of course, by the time you finish that a few more people will have joined and the average rating will have changed again. πŸ˜€

Right - ill take that as a "no, you cant do it" then. If you had to guess what would you say it is?

Around 1200-1300, Chrismo posted something about it some time ago, but I can't remember where, maybe somebody else still remembers! πŸ™‚

I did a quick check, and the break-down of players (more than 20 played games) is:

401 - 500: 1
501 - 600: 9
601 - 700: 3
701 - 800: 28
801 - 900: 39
901 - 1000:113
1001 - 1100:293
1101 - 1200:593
1201 - 1300:761(Average)
1301 - 1400:622
1401 - 1500:414
1501 - 1600:241
1601 - 1700:115
1701 - 1800:67
1801 - 1900:32
1901 - 2000:17
2001 - 2100:17
2101 - 2200:8

If you look at all players who have played more than 20 games, never played against provisional players thereafter; never have been above 2100, and never played against players higher than 2100, the average rating is almost exactly 1200 πŸ˜€πŸ˜›πŸ˜€
I would even go as far as to say the rating is 1200.000... This is due to the way the fotmula for the rating works. One player gets what the other loses (almost always).
I don't know about all other cases.

Quick!? How'd you pull the data together? I'd like to do the same with my own info just for kicks.

Well, now that you mention it, I guess that 'quick' was a subjective term I used. Still, it really didn't take me more than 15 mins. I scanned the entire user database, with 20 users being displayed at a time, and just added-up how many people fell into each of the categories that I'd already laid-out. Since it was fixed at 20 people per page, most of the pages were easy to count, so all I had to do was click the mouse quickly and mentally add 20+20+20+20+20 ... get the idea? =)
