I've played the Benko (1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 c5 3. d5 b5) for some time and have wondered if the Wing Gambit vs. the Sicilian (1. e4 c5 2. b4) is sound enough to consider playing. Both openings have similar plans and pathways into the middlegame but the Wing Gambit just doesn't feel right. If you are a) experienced in either or both of these openings, or b) very good at sounding experienced (good enough to convince a poor B-player) at said openings (or the game of chess in general), please help? 🙂 Thanks in advance...

I will not even try to say if the Benko is good or bad. Just suffice to know that I have played it in tournaments and won some EXTREMELY pretty games. Then again, talk about crash and burn! IMHO the wing gambit is not worth discussing.

Thanks Feivel, that seems to be the general concensus. 🙂 Have any game scores of Benko games from tournaments? I'll see if I can find some of mine. So does ANYONE want to defend the Wing Gambit? I bet if you analyze it enough you can have it renamed after yourself, just like Benko. 😀
