Ok it gives white a chance to play their pet follow-up to 1.e4 but it's hardly terrible.
A bit like saying 1.d4...d5 is an awful reply
They have their own logic & I wouldn't fear playing 1...e5 against e4 at all. I like tactical, open games so bring it on!
