    I'm usually not much one for self flagellation but i think this game

    Game 2646058

    takes the cake for worst blunder of the the year. I had a winning combination .. but not just ANY winning combination a fantastic, queen sacrificing, piece en pris killer combination.

    Instead, so excited by the impeding revelation of my tactical prowess I jumped ahead a move and simply .. lost my queen, and of course the game.

    I now open the thread for your commiserations 😳

    I will leave the ACTUAL combination as an exercise for the reader

    I actually remember something similar to this from the reinfeld puzzle book that i've been studying lately that's probably the only reason i solved this one. Yeah it would've been a pretty cool win for you. 🙂

    27. ... Nc2+!
    28. Kb1 Na3+!
    29. Ka1 (If 29. Kc1 Qc2++) Qb1+!
    30. Rxb1 (forced) Nc2++

    A wonderful smothered mate. But I can't remember whether Alekhine or Lasker introduced it. Hmmm... I really have to do some reading again soon.

    Oops... someone beat me to it.

    Pavlo87 gets in first but ckoh1965 gets a donut for style!

    I think it was Alekhine who got in first, Lasker did have a really famous example of it though

    It would have been a wonderful mate - and I wouldn't call one terrible blunder being "blown off the board" - or bored if you will.

    It happens, I've had some very awful blunders, mostly when I try to play fantastic and unsound sacrifices. :/

    Oh my .. the final position alone is enough to make a grown man weep! I'm sure there is a consolidated "terrible blunders" thread some where in here where we can both find more solace
