Are there any books or bits o software that do what the above link does? Sometimes when playing against Chessmaster (xbox version) they start opening just differently enough that I have a hard time following in the small openings book that I recently bought. If there was a bit of software or a book that allows one to look moves up in a similar fasion that would be great.
I'm not looking for a cheat guide or anything, but something that will refer me to the appropriate opening. I have found that many openings have some of the same moves and I sometimes have trouble looking through book to see the lines.
Anyone know of anything?
Originally posted by ChesswickI have downloaded that Scid program. It seems ok, but I can't seem to get the configuration set up for what I want. I just gotta play with it some more.
The most comprehensive book I know of is Modern Chess Openings. I often see it referred to as MCO-12, MCO-14, etc. depending on the version.
The simplest software I've seen available for openings is called Scid.
Google for both of these and you'll find ample resources.
Thanks for the tip.
Originally posted by RahimKWith ChessBase (and I believe Fritz as well) you can specify the depth of the tree. However deeper trees from large number of games may tax your system resources.
You can make one of those opening trees with a program like fritz. You just collect the games you want in there and then click on some buttons and it makes a tree for you. It doesn't go as deep though, up to around 11-20 moves or so.
