I'm looking for an endgame book for someone of my level (around 1500). I want a rather all-inclusive book for more complex endgames, such as bishop vs. knight endgames, rook vs. rook, rook vs. 1 minor piece, rook vs. 2 minor pieces, queen vs. queen, etc. However, I don't mind if it includes more basic endgames, such as basic endgames without pawns. Any suggestions or reccommendations?
Don't overlook Silman's Complete Endgame Course. It is a relatively new book on the endgame by the same IM who wrote such solid chess library classics as Reassess Your Chess and Amateur's Mind.
It has the openings broken down by rating so you learn the easier ones first, then get progressively more complicated.

Originally posted by TippedKingVery good book. Well worth the investment for players of every level. It starts with beginners' endings like mate with Q+K v K, and builds up level by level to master-level endings. It is very practical - for example it omits the mate with K+B+N v K on the basis that it is a very bad investment of learning time for most people - a straw poll reveals that only about 50% of serious chessplayers ever have the need to execute this mate in a real game, and that 50% usually only get it once in their entire career. It is a tricky mate to learn for most people, so is it worth the study point for an extra half point once in your life? A fair point, I think.

Originally posted by PawnChopI agree 100%. The DVDs make learning endgames as painless as possible, and Karsten is hilarious.
although not a book i recommend Karsten Muller's endgame course on dvd. it spans 4x dvds and is for me the best way of learning endgame concepts. i find books very dry and overloaded with too many variations to take in when it comes to endgame theory.
Originally posted by wittywonkaI think Silman's new book is the best. He builds your knowledge better than any book I've ever seen. Many endame books spend entire chapters on positions you might never see. The reward for time invested in Silman's book will be greater than any other endame book out there.

Originally posted by wittywonkaThe best one for you is definitely Just the Facts! by Alburt and Krogius. Silmans endgame course is also worth a look. I do own winning chess endings, but I feel it just isn't up to par with the aforementioned books.
