Is anyone here playing in any of the events at the British Championships?

It's in Great Yarmouth this year. I may enter my son in one of the junior events, but it's very expensive once you pay for accommodation, meals etc.

The price you have to pay if he is going to be a star.

Good luck to him.

If he does well, or if you think he will, ask Russ for sponsorship and get your son to wear a tee shirt advertising this site etc.

Just a thought. 😉

I think I'll save my money and put it towards a holiday instead! There are other tournaments he can enter (he's qualified for the Terafinal next month) and there are lots of local children who are as good as or better than him who he can practice against. It's just the thought of entering the British Championships - there's a lot of prestige involved in just being strong enough to consider playing in it.

Sadly playing in tournaments OTB with the expenses involved is a little dear. Susan Polgar also wrote something on her blog about the $400 entry for the World Open and then add hotel accomodation/flights/taxis. Given that most of those players will not win a prize its a very expensive holiday.

I used to be against online chess but the astronomic costs of OTB chess now means online chess is the only viable option for millions around the world.
