Buying Chess Software

I am new to competitive chess and have no chess software. I was wondering what you would recommend and its approximate cost.

P.S. I have a brand new computer that is pretty fast.

Fritz, Junior, Shredder.

Approx cost is around $50 I think for the new versions. Even the old versions are great.

Fritz 8 instead of Fritz 10 for example.
