Being a nerd I have set up a little league where I play against all the computers and programmes that I own, along with some retro software such as acornsoft chess It's split into 3 divisions (soon to grow to four) I'm in the second division, and we're in the second season. The games are even rated under an ELO system. The tedious bit is playing the computers and programmes against each other, it's just sooooo boring. It occured to me, that this might be just your thing, especially as there must be more than one engine user on here, so you're probably quite often in a pair, playing computer against computer. I don't see what you get out of it, but then I don't see what my girlfriends family get out of watching formula 1, seems to me they could just stand on a motorway flyover and have the same thing going for them.

Anyway, I'm accepting applications for the position of computer representative in my "Man vs Machine" league, please feel free to contribute to tis thread, saying why you would be the best for the job.

And if anyone is interested in the ELO ratings the machines and programmes get in this tournament, or in league positions, or my games vs the machines, let me know, I'll add them to the thread.

so you're expecting engine users to actually apply here?in public?!?

    GOOD LUCK!

Btw,can't you just gather all the engines in 1 interface and let them compete automatically?
I mean, without you even having to be present.

No, most of them are either dedicated chess computers or emulators, no way to communicate together, which is a shame. It would be great if i could do that. And the invite to engine users was tounge in cheek ;-)

You have them in Divisions playing each other (now it's up to 4 divisions).

Why not have a Knock Out Cup.
Think of the fun you can have doing the draw.

You write the name of each computer on a ping-pong ball.
Put them in your washing machine, set the machine to spin,
then open and close the door to let the balls out one at a time.

    Ah, Acornsoft Chess.

    The memories.

Um, most of my memories of that program involve it taking days to move, even on easy level.

The very same, he's doing the draw for the Carbon Silicon Cup. It's live on radio 4 long wave, where they put all the insufferably boring sports apart from golf.
