I would like to ask a favor. My dad is becoming quite the chess enthusiast, and I play him regularly on this site, but he is a bit of a computer-phobe and I can't get him to go through the New Game or Open Invite process, simple as they are. However, he could use a few more games and I think I can get him to accept challenges.
He is a beginner-intermediate level player with almost no theoretical knowledge and some tactical skill. Usually makes a move every 1 or 2 days. He is a welder and motorcycle/snowmobile enthusiast. Anyone here that would enjoy playing him a friendly game I would much appreciate it. His user name is "checkmate cliff." Thanks.

Sure. I'll send him a challenge. I'm a bit of a sluggish mover though. Hope he doesn't mind.

Just for fun. I remember reading about Michael Basman toying around with this type of opening and I thought I would give it a shot. The idea is just to waste a couple of tempi to see what your opponent does and then react to their opening.
That was an interesting game, actually, and not pretty. He pulled off a very nice smothered mate threat that netted my queen, then proceeded to make a series of odd moves that let me back in the game. After losing the queen, I was quite content with a draw.
