I have had some games lately were i ended up with just my king and one bishop and they had only there king. And also I had one knight and king and they had only their king. I offered a draw and they took it. But is it possible to get a checkmate in either of these cases? I dont think it is. but I dont know forsure. If so can someone please take the time to explain how you can? I heard bobby fisher has done it in both cases. But like i said I heard. If not, why cant you claim a draw in these cases? I dont read books or use databases, I just play. maybe thats why I cant quite reach a 1600 rating. :'( But thats ok I have fun anyway.😀 David

No, it's not possible unless other factors like the placement of your opponents pawns happen to block his king.

No pawns. Just king and one bishop. Or just king and one knight. And The other player only had his or her king. I think we need to talk to Russ so we should be able to claim a draw in these cases. Otherwise one player can drag the game on for almost a year with even a 3 & 7 if theres some kind of resentment. any seconds on that motion? David

Yea it's a good idea. You should post it in the Site Ideas Forum.

Even if your opponent wants to get mated, you can't mate with just a king and bishop/knight against king!
