Well, what's being gifted in chess?? Sure, intelligence is needed- but: everyone in this chess-community is intelligent! Some of us use their brain-power better than others, but there's no large gap.
I think, being gifted at chess is:
- being able to imagine positions
- having the discipline and fun to use your freetime for this game - when I tell my friends that I sit down and read a chess-book they start to laugh...
