I recently picked up a Rubik's cube and struggled with it for 3 days until finally cheating on the internet to find the solution, when I thought to myself about the immense amount of spatial intelligence it must take for someone to complete the puzzle on their own. Then, of course, I thought of chess and how important spatial intelligence and visualization skills are to becoming a good player.

So the top players on this site must have pretty high levels of spatial intelligence, which made me think: does this mean they're the same people who solved the Rubik's cube without cheating?

So how about it, how many of you out there can solve the cube on your own? I'm just trying to see if there is any link to rating at all, thanks alot for looking 🙂

I can solve 1 in 1:14 seconds, from any position.

edit: 1:14 was my average.

I can do one layer also, but it ends there.

Was it a lot of trial and error?

nothing compared to my 1 minute and 14 seconds, I'm rated 1228 RHP, and 1370 USCF!

yea, i tried to just recognize pattern movements amongst the the different pieces until i figured out combinations to finish it.

but it is just functions, thats all it is. know the funtions and you can do it easily in a minute. to figure it out on your own is another thing entirely.

i took 3 month. figured it out nearly all myself! halve a year more of cubing on i got my best time to 24 seconds and average round about 35 seconds 😀 but i cheat a bit now and memorize lots of the formulas, some i worked out though. cant say doing one or the other reasonably well (1700rated/3 month to complete) helps t'other but it is deffinately a good warmup before i play on here.

has anybody worked out rubiks revenge?

if you are talking about the 4x4x4 cube then yes, i did. first time i did it it took me about 3 hours of non-stop work to get it. the next time it took me about an hour. then, i lost it.

impresive!!! ive started to work on it but there is no way to vanilla layer by layer it. i think what has to be done is rearange it like a normal cube? solve the center as if it were a 2by2 (which i think will be harder then it sounds) and then pair edges. solves itself like a 3by3 after that but i have not tried hard enough to get there yet. or is there an easier way?

you have to get the middle pieces all the same color. then i figured out new combinations that were similar to the regular cube to finish it. i went from bottom to top, same as i do the regular one.
