Chess Movie: Queen to Play

Only Chess

I just watched the French movie “Queen to Play” (“Joueuse” in French), which I got on DVD from Netflix last night.

I wrote a review of it on my chess blog

You can watch the trailer on there as well. I think that most chess players would like the movie.

Cheers,
Tim

Ebert likes it too. Available for instant play at Netflix.

This is one of the games featured in the movie. The main character plays the 24th move. A real brilliancy!

Beautiful actress. Delightful movie. I do love how she was clutching the queen in her lap during the tournament. I also enjoyed that it was a chess movie free from, "It's there, Josh! Just 12 moves deep! You can find it!"

I'll look out for it. I wonder though.
In the game quoted, TimmyBx correctly spots it is indeed
the famous game Sveshnikov - Scherbakov. Russian Ch. 1991,

Do they give the players a mention in the credits? I think they should.

The same combo has of course been played on here.

I've always thought that these movies would be so much better if I could see the games.

Thanks for the game. Now I want to see the movie again.
