People who resign/quit the game at the very start once they see your opening. This has happened to me twice on this site and dozens and dozens of times in blitz games, I just can't understand why people don't play.
I've never quit a game at the start because I didn't like the opening my opponent choose, surely that's part of the challenge of chess.
If people wish to try out openings why not play a few blitz games or even play some unrated games but to quit games purely based on the opening is just stupid and very annoying๐

Originally posted by tmetzlerSicilian, most of the blitz resigns have been to me playing Nf3 (King's Indian Attack).
That IS strange. I've played > 1500 games here and don't ever recall that happening. And I've played a fair number of non-standard openings.
Maybe you just smell bad. ๐ Seriously, what opening are you using?
Originally posted by AudaciousWell, I'm talking about it happening 5-6 moves into the game. I too have had plenty of games cancelled on ICC, for instance, after a move or two (or none).

If it's happening in under 3 moves, wouldn't you have to consider the idea that maybe the person realized they didn't have time to play the game just as they were sitting down, or otherwise got called away from the board?
I'm sure there are some cases where people don't like the opening and abort, but most of these are likely just people who decided not to play, not people who fear your mastery of the Caro-Kann.
Originally posted by OrangeKingBoth times were games where the other person made the board, so I think it has more to do with the opening rather than people not having enough time. Plus time isn't really a factor in games on this site๐

i will admit when i was a lower level player i feared d4 moves. after a while i was like well i'm not going to get better unless i play both sides of the board on all different variations. so i sucked it up and started to learn the d4 openings now i'm not afraid of them and will not delete a d4 game but look forward to it because i get to learn from it.
Originally posted by AudaciousPerhaps your rating wasn't where they wanted it. There have been plenty of times where I made a board and resigned after move one because the opponents rating was too low, and resigning right away doesn't cost me rating points.
