http://www.chessopeningsdatabase.net is an online chess openings database for chess players who want to research, analyse and annotate chess openings online.
You need to know the name of the opening to research it there, and if you know it's name, you probably already know what moves are involved.
Once you're in the board area, you can just play the moves out by moving pieces instead of following established lines.
So there are actually two ways to move pieces
1. Move the pieces yourself. This suggests moves to the system that may not be in the system.
2. Follow the moves already in the system.
In this sense, it differs from other chess databases. For most databases, you just follow what is already in the system. The games tend to be famous games.
This is all about user generated content in true web 2.0 style. It is for users who want to research and analyse chess openings -- and even name new openings!
