Do you know of any websites with comprehensive chess openings (and possibly some commenting on them)?

I use chessops and the chess openings explorer from chessgames.com but they are rather limited.

I used to use the chess database from chessbase but their recent UI re-incarnation is rather poor. It is easier for that matter to search on the openning database of Frtiz but I'd rather not touch a chess engine during gameplay (one can get tempted 😛).

    So any suggestions?

I like the "Play like a GrandMaster" link they have. I played Portisch - Petrosion 1964 on the white side and score 41.33% which is a surprise... I must have seen the game somewhere before without knowing it.

    hey,

www.365chess.com/opening.php seems to have a larger collection of games then www.chessgames.com/perl/explorer

but, as i just found out, http://www.chess.com/explorer/ has still the largest of the three above.

they are quick to use for opening repertoires, but actually i also wonder, whether there exist better options out there.

someone knows of a hidden jewel of a huge database of chess games, preferably online?

(does timeforchess have something like a game browser i never managed to find? and i mean some gamebrowser that is not called 'gp'😉

Haha it is very hard considering there isn't a link to it from the main page.
