Most on here would probably say with a big stick...cause I am sure a
few would like to do that.
But I will give up my weakness for all to start studying up...although I
am really working on some new lines on this....the French defense is
my Achilles Heel. I hate playing against it and always get myself into
trouble.
Does that help Rein??
Dave
Well, if Achilles hadn't actually killed himself, he probably would have
done fine...
Anyway, didn't you say you like the KIA? I'm assuming you've looked
at the Richter attack with 5.Bxf6 as well, right? For me, it seems to
throw a lot of die hard francophiles off their games somewhat. One
line I've never really considered is 1.e4 e6, 2.c4... I'm not even sure
it's in any of my books. There is a line in the Caro-Kann (Accelerated
Panov Attack) where white proceeds the same way. I wonder if it would
work against the French. I don't like the French much either, as a
matter of fact.
--Rein, who is going to go by himself a French Defense book. (Or at
least take a good long look at one while it's in the store.)
The KIA is not my style. It is like I said a very good opening for
beginners through intermediates due to all of what I said before.
There are a few tricky lines as white that I have seen involving the c4
push...but I have been going over alot Shirov's games and liking
some of the lines he plays against it.
Plus there is one little very obscure line that I am saving for
Paul...after that Keres attack I am sure the French will be his choice
against me next go around.
Dave
Too late now. Not my fault you answered, though. :-P
By the way, I've been thinking about it, and there's really no
motivation ranking-wise for you to play anyone under around 1300
points, is there? You don't really gain any points should you win, and
we don't really lose much (if any) should we lose. It must be your
charitable personality, eh?
--Rein
I play who I chose to play..most people below that level that I play I
am helping teach them or they are my friends or both. I usually gain
one point from a win but they gain alot in the experience and the
things I point out during the game. Ask tenebr8...I think when we first
started playing he was a high 1300 player and now he is holding his
own around the 1600 level.
I hope you were not trying to say that I only play low rated players or
something. I have played alot of the top players here...sadly enough
never got to play xeno...tried but he was at his game limit or
something...and now it seems he is gone for good...so I will never
know how that one would have come out.
Dave
Actually, I was speculating as to why you bother to play low ranked
opponents at all! I had previously attributed it to general all-around
good naturedness. I've gone through some of your games (i.e vs.
Knightmare NJ), so I know you don't avoid the high-ranked players!
No offense intended, Dave. Quite the opposite, in fact. I just noticed
that when I play people more that 300 points above me and loose,
my rating really doesn't drop much at all, so I figured playing you I'd
loose (as you said) 1 point, when I stand to gain quite a few should I
somehow manage to beat you. I'm not sure I could be persuaded to
play many low ranking players were I in your position, except as
unrated games. Especially the new players still at 1200!
--Rein, who isn't actually trying to say anything at all.
He plays me constantly ( Or the other way around!)
Hehehehehe.......... and I think he doesn't like to defend either!
Hehehehehehe...........He also loves tactical positions, and hates the
French.........sounds alot like me except about 400 points higher!
Hehehehehe..........wanna play a few Rein? You sound like a good guy!
