I played an interesting variant today in which all rules are the same except one may not capture a piece unless it is giving check. It quickly gets convoluted, but it actually results in much more carfeul play as there are subtle traps to watch for. The game finished with a checkmate in 38 moves, with the capture of only one piece, a knight.
Comments? Anyone want to play an unrated game under this rule?
