My two cents on the issue... I could really see one having a gap between their rating here and OTB. I have no OTB rating whatsoever, but I struggle in the openings (especially when it is the English, or other flank games which I know nothing about). If it was not for the correspondence rules, I don't think I would do anywhere near as well OTB.
Originally posted by BlueEyedRookOh, that is most correct, Blueeyed. I'd like to get some of these 1700 rated RHP players over the board who use database engines and hours upon hours to come up with a good move when I'm playing quick and fast and still maintaining a 1500 rating on RHP with no help what so ever. LOL!

Are you against a 3 day timeout?
Seems like you spend a lot of time in the forums.
I do admit that sometimes, I get out my board and think for 30 minutes on some moves 🙂 But usually, 2 minutes are fine. Even in OTB, how often do you spend more then 2 minutes on a move?
1 hour, 20 games, 2 minutes per move, 20 min in forum. Sounds okay, no?
Originally posted by RahimKOh no, I usually play a game with 2 hours, and I usually use all the time to beat my 1700 chess computer. But, on here, most of my games I only think 30 seconds to a minute a move. So, basically I play quick chess on here. Sometimes, it's even 15 seconds a move. But, what happens is I make all my moves and have nothing to do. So, I sit here for an hour on the downstairs computers and answer forums and post, etc... 🙂 I get 30 minutes upstairs and an hour downstairs. In that 30 minutes upstairs, I make all my moves in 20+ games, and then I come downstairs to see if someone has moved. If not, I post in the forums. I usually take longer in playing OTB against my computer or Chessmaster 9000. I drew the 1800 on 30 minutes and I constantly beat my 1700 computer. Anyway, that's the truth.

So you get 90 minutes each session for 20 moves? Why not take your time then instead of only 15-30 seconds per game.
We get 2 hours each for our OTB games. The average game lasts about 30 moves to 40 at the most. So we'll go with 35.
Moves 1-7 theory mostly, which get playing within 1 minute in OTB. That leaves 28 moves to be made in 119 minutes or 4 minutes a move. Of those moves, lots of them are exchanges and obvious moves which take less then 1 minute. So what i'm trying to get at, is that 2 to 3 minutes a move should be good enough and just like OTB.
If you have a hard position, just write the moves down, go home analyse it and start using your timebank. That's what I do. I use a 7 day timebank and use it if I have to.
