For those who own a recent ChessBase program:

As a K-12 school chess coach, I am doing a statistical chess openings research project and need info from the ChessBase program. I need all the games played from 1970 forward of games played by players either both unrated or both rated under 1600. The idea here is not to find out the statistics of games played by Masters and so on, but to discover statistics from games the likes of what my students typically play.

I currently own the Chess Assistant database program and have created a base of games from it which match the criteria stated above (374,000+ games). I would like all the games from ChessBase that meet the same search criteria to add to my existing Chess Assistant base. It appears from my Chess Assistant manual that this should be possible. Is there anyone out there who'd be willing/able to create this base from a recent ChessBase program and e-mail it to me? If so, we can contact by e-mail and/or phone to set up the transfer. I'd appreciate it greatly, as would my students once my project is complete.

Thanks,
James Horton

A quick search of my main database reveals 619,724 such games. The database includes ChessBase's Big Database + every issue of The Week in Chess, as well as many other games I've added from several sources (incuding some online games). When I strip it of duplicates and aborted games, the number should go down a bit.

How do you look for,and eliminate doubles?I have chessbase8,but it came without a manual, and the store is taking it's time to send it.
I can ensure you,it's not an easy program to use, without a manual 🙁

Right click on the database in question from the database window, select Tools -- Find Double Games -- then make the choices you want in the menu, and click OK.

This proces only marks them for deletion (and it lets you review the doubles it found). To remove them forever, you then right click on the database, select Tools -- Remove Deleted Games.

There should be help files that were installed when you installed the program. In addition, you should check the help section of the ChessBase website. Among other things at their website is a regular column by Steve Lopez addressing all sorts of feature that the manual and help files do not address. ChessBase has a number of hidden features that Steve Lopez reveals in his columns.

For an example of a feature I learned about from such a column, look at http://www.angelfire.com/poetry/wulebgr/checklist.htm. I created this page of my website with ChessBase 8, then edited it in Word to add the background image and use the spellcheck feature of Word.

That's how it worked in chessbase7,but now, when I right-click on a database,I don't get the option to search for doubles. Can't find it in any of the menu's either.
When I click on help, nothing happens.I've read through the articles on chessbase.com,found nothing about this(could be I overlooked it though).
Maybe the program is messed up? 😕
Think I'll re-install it,see what happens.
