I've been reading about the sport of ChessBoxing and it's actually very interesting. I was thinking of using the idea as a way of training. I feel physical condition is important in chess, and working out is a good idea to stay healthy and active. How about incorporating some chess in the workout? Put a heavy bag in the basement next to a laptop or chess computer, punch the bag for 2 minutes, then sit and play chess for 3 or 4 minutes against a computer or even a friend, then alternate for a 30-40 minute workout. Seems like it could be decent and new way to get excercise while playing some rapid chess, a good way to build endurance and think while being tired or physically challenged. This of course wouldn't be the only way you should train for chess, but it's interesting, wouldn't you say?
Hey, if you blunder away your queen, you can get up and knock the bag around to release aggression!
one of the big trouble people get into when playing chess is they get too much nervous and hormonal energy going, and it wrecks their ability to think. so by practicing playing chess while your heart rate is up could be a good way to develop some skill under pressure, at least you would be more familiar to how your brain works when you are more activated. And over time, exercise is proven to help improve your ability to think, it improves hormonal function, and you get more efficient at putting oxygen in your brain. finally, any time you play chess, you learn a little bit. It's how people actually learn, not so much by thinking, but by absorbing. So, if punching the bag gets you to play more chess, well, that would be a good thing. and if chess is getting you to exercise, that's great also. I sometimes will do pushups and squats between all sorts of intellectual work, and it helps me reset, so I don't get stale. exercise is great, and so is chess, how can you miss?

The problem with Chess Boxing in my opinion, is that it focuses too much on the Boxing part. If a Grandmaster get's beaten up, and then has to play against a Master who feeling fine, he will probably lose. Therefore, you have to focus much more on the Boxing part.
