I am at Borders bookstore and I head towards the section of chess books. What do I see? Garry Kasparov on Fischer - My Great Predecessors, Part IV: Fischer by Garry Kasparov. I just had to buy that book and tell everyone 😀
Merry Christmas you all...
vol. 4 after X-mas!

I am reading the chapters about Fischer and Kaspy seems a bit unkind to him 🙁
Misha explains his perception of the tragedy of Bobby Fischer. I must say that GK's comments make more sense than almost anything else I've seen in the past few years. I'm looking forward to getting the book, and time to read it.

To me Fischer is a myth: untouchable, grand yet... spoiled. I find it hard to see somebody else saying something negative about him because I am a fan of Fischer that accepts him with his shortcomings.
The russian players had it all: support from the state and much more possibilities than Fischer and any other player in the planet. I am not surprised to see that they had so many GM's: chess was supported by the Soviet state.
How about a sport like Basketball? There are tons of people scouting schools in the USA trying to detect talented kids... Same with baseball and football... Ergo, the system facilitates the USA to excell in those sports.
Imagine what could have happened if Reschevsky and Fine would have opened chess schools in the USA to let kids devote themselves to chess 8 hours a day. Imagine a poll of kids under such coaching!
Bad or wrong: Fischer made himself! Fischer didn't attend Botvinnik's school of chess... Sadly, Fischer didn't have a strong hand to educate him and guide him to take advantage of such enormous talent... Only Fischer can be blamed for not giving more to chess... Only him...
But then again... I am just a Fischer fan...
