Anyone ever try this opening out? I must say It made for one long game.

Game 1137913

I did a search trying to find another game that started with this position and found : Olde,H -Shishkov,A 1996, but that was classified as a reti opening for some reason. I don't think it looks anything like a reti opening.

reti opening :
1. c4 c6
2. Nf3 d5
3. b3

Which is simiiar to the english but not quite.

How do you guys memorize all these different lines and tell them apart?

I swear that it is mainly just repetition and experience. I only know a couple of openings but as I read more I add more to my repetoire. The learning experience consists of this sort of thing - we see and hear of something, we replicate it and so on...

Well, one reason (cannot say if that is the case) to qualify this as Reti opening is that the position may be obtained after 1.Nf3 d5 2.c4 c6 3.b3, etc.; with 1.Nf3 d5 qualifying this as variant in Reti opening.
