i'm looking to buy a handheld chess computer but don't understand the ratings
can anyone explain how to compare a rhp rating with bcf and elo ?
is it true that rhp and elo are the same ?
also if anyone can recommend a good handheld computer i'd be grateful ?

The advertised ratings for handhelds are inflated 200-500. RHP ratings are ELO ratings, but likely a bit higher than FIDE ratings would be for most players.

they have a $40 dollar one but the screen doesn't light up so no playing in bed.

Excalibur's "Touch Chess II", which regularly sells for $30-40, was on clearance for $8 at the mall a couple weeks ago. Naturally I got one. I beat it every time playing the Grob. It's not even good bathroom entertainment.

Most of the inexpensive handhelds are worthless. Pocket Fritz on a PDA is pretty strong however.
