everyone else has threads complaining about one thing or another, so I thought I'd do one too.

When I win, I HATE when opponents try to reconcile the loss.
"you only one because I made that one mistake, you're nothing special. You just got lucky." I don't see that a lot on this site, but especially OTB it occurs a lot. All wins are the result of a mistake, since there exists no forced mate from the starting position. Why can't they just congratulate me on spotting their error and capitalizing on it?

I get this comment a lot. "I was drunk when playing you". So seems to me we have too many alcoholics who likes to play chess.

Yeah, my experience here on RHP has actually been good; I haven't had any rude opponents . But I also play on ICC, and there are a few rude ones over there. And, yes, of all the bad names I've been called, the worst is "lucky" 😀

That`s characteristic of many chess players - also in RHP and other chess sites.

Just rise above it and blame it on their immaturity; they will grow up eventually, we hope.

I always get a kick out of "Oh, I had to leave for a while, that was my little brother playing you."

I use that one, but only after my opponent's made an equal mistake as mine and I've equalized or better. 🙂

Comfort yourself with the knowledge that if your opponent is blaming their loss to you on luck, they're never going to be any better than they already are.

I've generally had good luck here but I have had a few opponents say "that was your first mistake". It gets under my skin a little.
So I try a little humor and just answer, "There's plenty more where that came from".

But I do wish they would keep it to themselves.

Just reconcile yourself that there is no greater sign of personal weakness than an inability to lose with dignity. Just smile at them, and remember that they are showing themselves to be a lesser human being than you.
You dont need to react. You won. That clearly gets to them. Revell in it.

Player A (who just lost to Player B): "You were just lucky!"

Player B: "You're right! I was lucky to be playing YOU.!"
