I just accepted a draw offer in this game Game 266062 because I couldn't see anything but repetition. But did I miss something? Could I have won? I'm always suspicious that offers of draws might be given when your opponent realises he's lost, and after my brilliant (well, I thought it was brilliant for me) knight sacrafice I wondered if I could have got more.

Could someone run a quick analysis? I can't work it out & don't have an engine to do it for me.

Cheers
Jon

I thought that - I cocked up at least twice that I saw, and probably half a dozen more times that I didn't, and my opponent was no dunce. That's why I was pretty proud of the knight sacrafice, which let me pressure his exposed king. But that's another angle I'd like to hear - could my opponent in fact have won if he'd stuck at it?

You were lucky to escape after you missed a great opportunity in move 29. You played Qa6 and allowed his Qxh5. With 29....Qxa4, threatening his knights, you were better. He would have had to play a knight to a3 and you could come in with the queen to b4 with check. Qxh5 would be prevented by or punished with Rh8 (threatening Rh2).

Yes. That's what I meant. You have a lost position.

In fact, it looks like he had to end the game swiftly (see profile).

29.Qa4 was what I was heading for, but backed out when I saw Nxd6 which would have allowed Qxe5 for check. He did this later but had to sacrafice the knight in doing so (which I think was an error).

Of course I really lost it when I didn't notice my knight on H5 wasn't actually protected - I swore after that one!
