eudesign.com/chessops has been really helpful for me as I knew very little about openings before I got to the site. But now, I wonder if there's any site out there that is similar except with more options. I see a lot of my opponents stray from the openings on eudesign.com but the molves seem perfectly sound to me.

I am sure others can gain something from this thread as well. Thank you. I can add for Dutch readers the three-volume "De wereld van de schaakopening" series by Paul van der Sterren, which was pointed out through PM.

this is the site I'm going to look at when I decide I should at least have an idea of what's going on in the non-1.c4 world for white.

another rather fine recommendation, the book is now winging its way to my collection as we speak, thanks!
Your welcome. I always enjoy referring players to the classic books.

Another book I liked for an overview of basic opening lines was Chess Opening Essentials, though I only have the 1. e4 volume.

Gambit has FCO:Fundamental Chess Openings by Van der Sterren coming out in October. At 448 pages (!) it should be comprehensive enough for anyone! I wonder if it's a translation of the Dutch book.

Re other recommendations, I never could get on with Fine's book at all.
