Its a wierd position in that respect. I thought the same thing for a bit before investigating further... I was partway through an analysis on a line when I started thinking, "hold on... en passant isn't even a move in that position"

regarding the posted game - blacks moves were not my style - I'm really looking for ways of getting my king-side pawns moving early - but safely! Perhaps without castling.

Remember i'm playing at about 1650 so cheap tricks work!

I think you make a good point about not castling. One of the points about the Czech Benoni is that, with the center locked up, your king will be pretty safe in the center.

Sometimes players go into "automatic castle" mode, rather than playing the best move in the position.
