not so much recently but in my earlier games when I was just learning the queens raid was a problem for me. I would play black my opponents move 1. e4 e5 2. Qh5 g6 3. Qxe5+ Qe7 4.Qxh8 do I proceed to Qxe4+ assuming white moves 5.Ne2 I move Qxc2 6. opponent continues with his own raid Qxg8 I move Nc6 7.Na3 Qa4 8. he continues to attack my queen b3 I respond with Qb4 9. Nc2 Qc5 10.Ba3 Qxc2 11. Qxf8 checkmate what did I miss here where did I go wrong

2...g6 is a bad move. Dropping the rook at once. After 2...Nc6 black are just fine.

That probably makes sense, but you should defend your e5 pawn first. After Nc6, you will be able to chase white queen safely with either g6 or Nf6, depending on white 3d move.

Queen raids are often initially successful: if not defended very precisely, they often snap up a pawn or two, especially the e pawn and the b pawn.

I often just let the silly pawns go, count them as gambits, and continue to develop by queen harassment. When you got both knights and bishops developed and are about to castle, and your opponent has only the queen developed, you can usually whip up an attack on the king in the center that will force your opponent to give the material right back, with interest.

There is a variation of the Latvian where black's queen runs amok while White tries to mate the black king. Here's an example:

Most Latvian games are like that. The only rule is: THERE ARE NO RULES!🙄
