Usually , the Alekhines as I think , seems like a bit weird opening.
Black plays the defense becuase he wants to get central foothold of White's central pawns and smash them apart , but hence he must be aware he does not get his knight stuck in the open space , just like generally saying that a knight in the rim is considered dim . I know that this is how the variation would carry on.
1. e4 Nf6 2. e5 Ng8 (Retreat Variation)
1. e4 Nf6 2. e4 Nd5 3. d4 d6 (Classical Variation)
But I think the position is equal for both sides so not much of a bad opening bad picked there . :-) .

How about whites space advantage? That definitely gives him a possitional advantage.

How would you think about the King's Indian Defence . Black gives up the center and rules out the game with hypermodernic defence . He uses a fianchettoed bishop and powers up his pieces and then launches a devastating attack on the cneter , but in the Alekhine's Defence , Black gives up the center as well , but he will immediately attack the center , and if White trades of , his pawn will be helpless on e5, and if he defends , Black will continue attacking with a powerful center knight ensuring none more of White's pawns go to the other pawns aid.

Ok lets just say this... I like to give white the center and CRUSH it! Thats why I play the modern Defence but i have always thought that the Alekhine Defence was a little Extrem! Pawns on e5 d4 c4 f4! Oh My God! But i have made some research and I have leanrt that it isint that bad after all! (But I dont like 1. e4 knf6 2. e5 Kng8?! it may be playeble but I dont know...) And I dont want opiniuons if the Alekhines Defence is Sound or not! I want Moves and Idaes! Peice Playsment and other stuff! OK? If the defence is still alive it cant be that bad can it?

his centre isn't a big advantage because it is vulnerable.
