The down side to playing players better than you, after a while you get disgusted and negative in thinking. Keep the games as close as possible and as you improve your opponents will be better also. I have slipped over a hundred points in the last couple weeks. The olayers that got me up there were weaker than me, and most of the ones bringing me down are better than I. My opinion is: "stay as close to your rating as possible and improve along the way".

I think sometimes that you should play some people a little better than you sometimes because then if you lose you dont drop alot and if you win you gane quite a bit more !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Originally posted by MissOleum If your reason for playing is to become a grandmaster, play ONLY better opponents and analyse EVERY game played.
If your reason for being here is fun and entertainment, play people 200 or 300 points both up and down, enjoy yourself and don't look at your own rating too often - it's not an accurate guide to your playing ability in an online-chess situation because you each have different outside influences, family, school/work, interruptions etc.
Here's what being 10 minutes late for a biology lesson does to your game:
ratings differ in skill level as you go up. a 1200 and 1300 could put up a very good game. although if a 1600 player plays a 1700 player the oddsthat the 1600 will beat the 1700 player are less than that of the 1200 vs 1300 player. until you hit about 1500/ 1600 people will still drop pieces. playing people relativly close to your rating should do you justice if they are higher. just keep climbing as you win more then play harder people.

I see what you are saying, but what if you keep loosing?

Another nightmare would be when you realize that your wife also is a member of RHP...
and you've played with her not knowingly...
and she won... 😕

Why would not your wife tell you that she was a member of RHP?
