Hi. Notice 1. ... Kf8 fails to 2. Nh4-g6# as well. The trouble is to find a position where the King is forced to g8 on his previous move.

Well that was simple.

I should have made it clearer.

Can 3 knights force say a mate in 4 saccing one of the Knights?

Is there a mating pattern with 3 Knight, 1 King v King with the
Black King on e5? (is there where I got my 3 Knights cannot mate from?)

That might be impossible. A King can take away three squares (say f6 f5 f4) and then there is a pattern of 2 x 3 squares (d6 d5 d4 e6 e5 e4) that has to be covered by three Knights. Three Knights can actually cover six adjacent squares but not in this way (I think) - imagine e5 & d4, d5 & e4, and then d6 and e6 remain.
