... My previous post wasn't serious. I just not a big fan of terminology and was attempting to ridicule that somewhat. It seems to have had the opposite outcome, with a debate over whether or not pseudosacrifice is a word (thank goodness nobody's discussing what a finesse is. I made that up). Credit to the person I initially mocked though, for not getting drawn in to what ensued. If you want am accurate definition of the above, I tend to call it a "game of chess" in which pieces are taken by either player at varying rates.

No no, pseodo-sacrifice is a word. Rudolf Spielmann uses that word in his book "The art of sacrifying in chess" (in original "Richtig Offern - Voraussetzungen, Ziel und Durchführung des Opfers im Schachspiel" ).

Well, exactly which word he uses, I'm not sure, because I don't have his original edition, but the Swedish one, where the translator uses the word "Skenoffer". But the point is the same: There are real sacs, and there are sacs that cannot be describes a real sac because the reward is coming right after.

I think pseudo-sacrifice describes it correctly, it's a good word.

I like that word 'Skenoffer' I'm going to use that next time I get the chance.

Any more Swedish words I can use? Please give me the Swedish for;

Check
Mate
Sacrifice
Doubled Rooks.

I want to sound edumicated in my columns. (I failed my 11+)

I would have thought that the Swedish for "I resign" would be more useful for you.

I prepare a better list than only these words. Give me some time.
