Can anyone explain why there are so many draw happy people here at this site? I cannot believe how many draw offers I've received in the middle of a game. ie, in a completely undrawable position, provided you don't have the foresight of a Kasparov. I simply don't get it. I used to play at another site, and I never saw this type of behavior before.

What gives?

Ppl on this site often complain about what you descriped, but personally, I have experienced the opposite. Players seem content on playing out drawn positions for another month just to make sure it's a draw, it's annoying, but legal, and involves patience. So far I've actually been rewarded with such behaviours, as they do a mistake trying to win, so that's ok with me 😀

Unlike Leko and Kramnik, I am not playing a dual match worth millions of dollars, I'm here to learn and play chess, so offering draws in the opening or middlegame seems kinda stupid and pointless to me, as it defeats the purpose of how this site could benefit you as a player.

Another thing to look at, is this is correspondance chess, and players may want to play safe and offer draws if they feel they will be busy this upcoming week and don't have as much time to log on the site and study the positions extensively.

Maybe they thought you had the better position. That's when I usually offer a draw 😀

I think it has a lot to due with positioning. I've offered draws when
we've made 30 moves or more and the position is equal, ie, neither side has any particular advantage. If i'm not threatening anything and my opponent isn't threatening anything, it's a draw. At least that's how i look at it.

I offer draws sometimes if im losing or if the board looks pretty even and i have no clue as to how either one of us are going to get an advantage unless one of us makes a huge error. Ill accept a draw unless i clearly see that i have the advantage in the game.

I don't feel this way. I try to find some solid way to unbalance the position in my favor, or move carefully until my opponent screws up - or if he unbalances the position I need to find a way to come out of it ok or at an advantage.

This is the hardest type of game to play, but still fascinating.
