yeah and then black gets a strong passed pawn and can exchange qeens with ...Qb6 or it white plays Ba5 to prevent this then ...Qe7 and the queen has to go or face Ra8.

Here's an interesting adjourned OTB club match I'm (still!) playing against an ECF 128 (1850 Elo) rated player.
He played the Vienna gambit & I replied with 3...d5 the Falkbeer variation.

[White "M. Harris"]
[Black "S. Collyer"]

[Result "??"]
[E ...[text shortened]... -0 looks much better to me & I think this could be my first big club scalp. 🙂
4...Nxd5 isn't so easy to meet.

Yeah after 4...e4 I'm glad he didn't play the rather good 5.d3!
4...e4 is just tempting beyond belief OTB because of the effect on Ng1 & 0-0. It gives such a lasting advantage when white misses 5.d3.

There's nothing at all wrong with 4...e4. It leads to a wellknown line of the Falkbeer. The point I'm making is that I couldn't find anything convincing against 4...Nxd5 so gave up this way of playing the Vienna for white.

I tried 3.Qf3!? in an OTB match. The game ended in a draw.
