I can't seem to get on it for some reason. I went to the link and it doesn't work, goes off to cannot find server. I asked a friend of mine on MSN, he said it doesn't work for him either. This is the FICS link right? I've heard a lot about it and want to try it out!

Check out the free ICC trial if they still offer it.
I think they might have cancelled it now.

I can play chess on playchess even in the US? Thought it was only Euros

ICC is overpriced (except for youth), and FICS has too many problems (although for the price it remains a bargain). USCL is nice, but is mostly Americans and has too few players at any given time.
The others (yahoo, etc.) are not worth the time.
