That is the one I downloaded, but fics dosn't seem to know that its on my computer. Seems like too much trouble to be good. Its feels like a pain in the a$$ site already.
If it's too much, then go ahead and yahoo (where you'll spend far more time on needless garbage and inefficiency).

a.) read http://www.freechess.org/Register/index.html
1. Fill out the Registration Form and submit it
2. You'll receive an Activation Code by e-mail .
3. Go to the Activation Page and enter your Activation Code
4. You'll receive a second email with the password for your new registered FICS account.
b.) once you've managed to get logged on to FICS you need few basic commands:
seek 5 0 // entering a 5min seek
seek 15 0 // entering a 15min seek
finger xxx // viewing your rating etc
help xxx // viewing the help file for a command
