FIDE and USCF Ratings

I have a USCF rating of 1793. Another player has asked me what the approximate FIDE equivalent of that would be, I have no idea, but I told him I would ask in the Forums. Does anyone know this? Rgds., Bob

Out of curiosity I tried a google search for "FIDE USCF rating comparison" and came up with this, which is a small part of some of the information that came up.

It appears from this that for a given FIDE rating, the equivelant USCF rating is somewhat higher. I was unable to find a clear comparison chart but maybe further research would produce one.

Probably not much help, I know, but perhaps this will give you some sort of idea.

According to the chart in Rapid Chess Improvement FIDE ratings are 100 points lower than USCF. Thus 1790 USCF would be 1690 FIDE. British Chess Federation would be about 130. Why all the difference? I don't know.

There doesn't seem to be a clear comparison between Fide and USCF because, amongst other reasons, USCF tinker periodically with the rating system to add or counter inflation (as well as use rating floors and ceilings, etc.).

A 100 point difference is assumed when Fide-rated foreigners play in USCF tournaments to make it harder for them to be eligible for class prizes. I would guess that USCF ratings are about 50 points higher than Fide, and 70 points or so higher than the national rating systems used in Europe (though these also vary, naturally).
