What do they do? What is the job description of "refereeing" a chess game?
What does FIDE stand for anyway?
"internatiol federation of chess"
Ok, I saw in a mag, there was one game, karpov/kasparov at linares. Kasparov crushes karpov with a KID. Promotes a pawn and says "queen" which in russian means Knight which karpov gladly hands him. Who do you think resolves the dispute?
funny, eh?
When I was young , I had a friend whom I played with a lot. Every time I played the most common trick on him (a king+queen fork) with a knight , he says he didn't let go of the piece in his last move . That me friend , I believe is cheating , and a ref's job is to make sure neither of the players do that .
Originally posted by SicilianNajdorfwell I could do that, so why is it so great that our #1 was supposedly a ref?

Will you please stop pretending to be so DUMB!
is 12-1300, doesn't have to know about FIDE. Give him a break
and don't automatically think he's dumb because he doesn't know
about FIDE. He may not even know about the USCF, doesn't make
him dumb.
I don't know if anyone knows this, but a 1300 player is suppose to be a strong social player, and I have this funny feeling that these correspondence ratings on red hot pawn do not correlate with real OTB USCF tournament ratings in standard time. For me, I move rather quickly on redhotpawn, and right now I have this provisional 1400s rating. I wonder I could blow this rating up to 1600s if I thought ten minutes each move I make. LOL As for the dude not knowing about USCF or FIDE, who cares. I doubt he's ever going to meet GM VLAD Kramnik for the World title any time soon.
