Short is out in round 2, after trying too hard to win a drawn endgame in game 1 against Krasenkow and putting a R en prise. Other shocks (of sorts) - Ivanchuk was held to two draws by Pental Harikrishna, and Nakamura beat Aleksandrov.

There's no coverage on ANY commercial TV channel, I wouldn't think 🙂 Chess coverage is pretty much net only, which is strange considering how cool and sexy top chess players are!

Games are relayed live on ICC (www.chessclub.com), you don't need to be a member to log in and watch. Do need to download a client though. There's also a java relay on the official site, www.wcclibya2004.com.

Only half the number of players seeded to reach the last 32 have actually reached that stage. Seven of the top 16 players are already out. Adams has an easy route to the semi-final (due to Milov and Morozevich withdrawing at the last minute I guess), so looks like a slight favourite.

3rd round pairings:

Topalov, Veselin (BUL) vs Movsesian, Sergei (SVK)
Smirnov, Pavel (RUS) vs Aronian, Levon (ARM)
Adams, Michael (ENG) vs Hamdouchi, Hichem (MAR)
Grischuk, Alexander (RUS) vs Filippov, Valerij (RUS)
Ivanchuk, Vassily (UKR) vs Kasimdzhanov, Rustam (UZB)
Krasenkow, Michal (POL) vs Zvjaginsev, Vadim (RUS)
Dominguez, Lenier (CUB) vs Tkachiev, Vladislav (FRA)
Nisipeanu, Liviu-Dieter (ROM) vs Mamedyarov, Shakhriyar (AZE)
Kharlov, Andrei (RUS) vs Leitao, Rafael (BRA)
Dreev, Alexey (RUS) vs Sakaev, Konstantin (RUS)
Akopian, Vladimir (ARM) vs Moiseenko, Alexander (UKR)
Ye, Jiangchuan (CHN) vs Almasi, Zoltan (HUN)
Anastasian, Ashot (ARM) vs Beliavsky, Alexander G (SLO)
Lastin, Alexander (RUS) vs Nakamura, Hikaru (USA)
Bacrot, Etienne (FRA) vs Radjabov, Teimour (AZE)
Kozul, Zdenko (CRO) vs Rublevsky, Sergei (RUS)
