After all these years who thinks fischer could take the National Championship away from Kasparov? Kasparov never won it from Fischer, True Fischer normally doesnt show up for his National Title Defenses, but the bottom line is he never lost it. Does anyone think the "NEXT" bobby fischer is out there somewhere, waiting to have his shot at the "russian's title?" is it soon will it ever happen? What does everyone think? I know I'll get some morons with a 1000- rating on here saying they are next but honestly, out of the FIDE rated players who do you think has the best shot at it. BTW does anyone know who will take over the World title now that Kasparov is in Retirement?

he lost the title the moment he didn't defend it, as far as I'm concerned. everything else is just excuses.

Uh last time I checked Kramnik is the World Champion... and probably not likely to lose it imo.

As for the next Bobby Fischer... we have enough paranoid racists out in the world... do we really need another?

LOL i like that, Yeah I guess we could go without the Paranoid, not to many paranoid people in Ireland, and I'm not sure where you are from but I guess in today's world there are many people in different parts of the world like that. I never found Fischer as a True Champion to begin with, I mean he could play chess like no other American i've ever seen but the run over and over again, seemed just alittle cowardly to me, Dont remember, Mikhail Moiseyevich Botvinnik, Efim Bogoljubow or my personal fave, Jose Raul Capablanca Running during there title defenses. These were the best players in the world. Bobby Fischer was never a true Champion so let him please stay away from the chess foundation he doesnt deserve to touch a chessboard.

Ummm, don't you mean Karpov never won it from Fischer? It's the World championship btw, not the National championship...😉 (Sorry to be pedantic)

winning over 90% of your games against world grand masters doesn't sound like he'd be a coward to me. he tried to save chess by revolutionizing it. but because they would not change he quit. its a dying game! i don't think hes a coward, boxers usually get to chose some of the settings in their matches so why couldn't he have some of his standards changed. he wanted people to win the world title by winning multiple games, not winning one and drawing the rest.

This is the funniest post I've ever seen!

After all these years who thinks fischer could take the National Championship away from Kasparov?

Maybe you mean the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP? Away from kasparov? Kasparov is not the World Champion ( or the national Champion for that matter hehehe ).

Kasparov never won it from Fischer,

kasparov never even played a game against Fischer. Maybe you mean Karpov ( as someone else mentioned ) - he was the official challenger in 1975.

True Fischer normally doesnt show up for his National Title Defenses, but the bottom line is he never lost it.

I wouldn't use the word normally. He chose not to defend his WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP in 1975. While he never 'lost it' by playing ( ie. over the board ) , he most certainly lost his title as it was awarded to Karpov by default.

Does anyone think the "NEXT" bobby fischer is out there somewhere, waiting to have his shot at the "russian's title?" is it soon will it ever happen? What does everyone think? The 'NEXT' Bobby Fischer - if by that you mean the next great American player...I dunno lol, might be a while...

If you mean the next chess genius ( after Fischer ), Kasparov might be a good choice!!!

After him, who knows...

The 'Russian's Title'? You must mean Kramnik's title!!! Since he is the current WORLD CHAMPION.

BTW does anyone know who will take over the World title now that Kasparov is in Retirement?

Kasparov was not WORLD CHAMPION when he retired, Kramnik was, and still is.

Okay, First off this post Stats WHAT IF Fischer went against Kasparov for the World title while either Bobby held it or Garry Held it. This has zero to do with Karpov. This was an Opinion post designed to give out opinions not facts. No Bobby Fischer did not officially lose his title BUT Chess is consider a Sport and in like any sport (Football,Soccer,Baseball..) if a certain number of people did not make the game the other team gets the win by forfit and there fore recieves whatever was put up for grabs, and the losing side knows what will happen if not all members have arrived. Fischer knew what he was doing, so in all Fairness he never lost his title by timeout or checkmate but he sure did lose it by Forfit there for bottom line he lost his title end of story.

Im hoping that Gata Kamsky can become a future world champion. I think he is a genius over the board.

Fischer's been out of the game for too long. He didn't play a single professional game after defeating Spaasky, going three years until he was to face Karpov. I think Karpov would have mopped the floor with him for that reason. Fischer knew it too. That's why he walked out.

Now it's been 35 years unless you really count that match in the early 90s that got him into trouble with the US government.

if it makes the Fischer addicts feel any better, think of it this way: Pretend that the match did manage to get organized, and Fischer never showed up for any of the games and lost on timeouts.

but the analogy in sports is best, if you don't show up, it's a forfeit. If Fischer kept his title then it would be like the winner of the football (feels weird not saying soccer) world cup staying out of all future tournaments and walk around claiming that they're the undisputed champions.

I would have paid to see a Fischer-Kasparov match about 20 years ago. Today? Not so much. Both's skills have degraded (Fischer more so, he is over 60+ years old now).

Now, if you could pull the best players out of history at their best, I'd like to see Fischer play Capablanca!

if Fischer was at his best Karpov and Casablanca would easily crush Fischer he wasnt even that great of a player. Casablanca was the best player of his Generation and Karpov is the best in his. If anything Id love to see Casablanca and Karpov got at it in a best of 7 match. Now theres a PACKED show.
