I saw a post where greenpawn said he uses penguin chess editor. Are there any other free ones? I didn't see screenshots of penguin, can anyone compare it to Winboard/others?

    Hi enrico20

I only just saw this post (I do log off now & then).

I saw that other lad's post and I went and got version 2.0.2 of Chesspad.
This is good. I have tried it four times. It works no problem.

It toiled at first but I went into preferences, game display, display settings
and unticked all the boxes. Perfect.

OK I'm now a Chesspad man. The Penguin can waddle away.

Cheers Wilf. That's a pint I owe you.

Nice one Wilfriedva and greenpawn. I will have a look at Chesspad. I was a bit sceptical of penguin because I could not even see a screenshot.

Screen shots of Penguin (and the program) can be found here:

    Ditto of Chesspad are here:

Personally, in keeping with the KISS principle referred to in another thread, I still use Chesspad 1. I don't quite remember right now what I didn't like as much about Chesspad 2, but I do recall that it just did more than I want it to do.

Thats the problem with new versions of software. The programers get it right first time then try to justify their pay by adding bells n whistles to a new version.

I still get mistyeyed thinking back to windows98.
