Depends what your looking for really and your level of chess.
I don't buy applications such as fritz to play the computer at chess, the reason I buy fritz is because it gives you access to playchess.com where I play online chess. Every game you watch/play there gets saved to your computer so you can go over your games and analyse them with fritz which should help you improve and it's always nice to have a record of your games imo.
Chessbase also have a number of learning materials such as dvds and database cd's which can be viewed through fritz. If your just starting out in chess then maybe an application such as chessmaster might be better .
Lastly it comes down to cost and computer spec, I've got a fairly decent computer spec and I've noticed that 10 seems to be slower than fritz 9 also depending on where your from you should be able to pick up fritz 9 cheaper. So you might be better off getting 9, you'll still get a years access to playchess it'll give you a chance to use the application and you can always upgrade at a later date.
Originally posted by buddy2Funny thing is I don't even need the years playchess subscription cos mine doesn't run out till 2040😏 however I just like to have the most up to date version. But yeah deffo there isn't much between the two apps, there is some nice touches with 10 however if you can get fritz9 cheaper then buy that.
Yea, audacious, i've noticed fritz 10 to be slower than 9. In fact (even tho i bought the darn thing) i don't see much to recommend it over 9, except you do get the added year on playchess. At least they got rid of the stupid Turk.
I heard Fritz 10 had something relating to developing a plan by it looking at the position instead of just calculating moves and seeing the outcome of such combinations.
Is this true? If so it would be a great advantage for weaker players like me who most of the times don't have a plan and the rest of the time have the wrong one 🙂
I think you mean those multicolored arrows all over the place, to show what Fritz is thinking. I turned them off immediately. Maybe some players like them to show possibilities, but i don't see much use for them. I also turn the talking off and the hints with the mafia-type picture. It seems to me that Fritz is running out of meaningful ideas with the software. Why don't they combine chessbase with fritz??
