I recenetly got fritz 7 but it seems ot have a lot of problems. It doesnt use an opening book and wont let me put one in, if i try to update it it goes to german. I also cant even seem to get it to play against me how i want it to. I want it to do 3 minute per move as well as it can which using the tablebases that I have.I already directed fritz to my tablebase folder. Can anyone help?
I have Fritz 7, and I've had considerable trouble with the opening book, too. It seems to really favor playing the Scandinavian against me, which obviously doesn't give me much practical experience. What I've resorted to is entering the moves for Fritz by hand and then letting it play through my opening set-up.
Originally posted by ryan1002Start fritz, click on 'openings book',if nothing there simply direct it to it's opening book(you should have a chessbase folder somewhere, normally in 'my documents',inside that folder there's another folder 'books',the openingbook should be in there). Now go to tools and select book options(or hit f4),make sure both 'use book' and 'tournament book' boxes are checked. It should now use it's openingbook.

For 3 minutes per move, just go to 'game'-->'levels'--->'fixed time',I think the time is given in seconds. In that mode,it plays on full strength by default,I think. You can alter it's playing strength, but I keep forgetting how,I'll get back to you on that if I find out 🙂
EinZweiDrei, hit f4 or 'tools'--->'book options',there's a slide to alter the variety of play,my guess is yours is set to minimum.Just maximise it and make sure the 'use book' and 'tournament book' boxes are checked, that should do the trick 🙂
Hope that helped.
