Game 1778820

Hey all, I just finished this game and was wondering if any players better than me would care to give me advice on the oppening, stratey, tactics etc. I like this game, Bf4+ was the final blow (and the only one I think.)

Thanks all. 🙂

Flawless game for you I'd say. As for you opponent, he didn't play the opening very well. Left his king in the middle, didn't protect the e4 pawn with say f3 and went for some sort of attack before developing his pieces.

Well played Mars.

11.Qf4?? was the losing blunder, white's only move there was 11.Nxe4
when after 11.... Bxa1 12.Bxe7 Black will have to play accurately to prove any advantage.
Black took full advantage of the mistake though.

1. e4 c5
2. Nf3 Nc6
3. Bc4 d6
I think 3..e6 would have been the better move here, winding up for ..d5 gaining a tempo on the bishop.
[3...e6 4.Nc3 Nf6 5.d3 d5 6.Bb5 Bd7 7.O-O Bd6 8.Bg5 and Black is doing quite well.]
4. d4 cxd4
5. Nxd4 Nf6
Offering to transpose to the Sozin Variation.
6. Nc3 g6 [6...Qb6 7.Nb3 e6]
7. Bg5 Bg7
8. Qd2 Qb6
9. Nxc6 bxc6
10. b3
A big mistake. The Bg7 is x-raying White's Ra1 [10.Na4 Qb7 11.f3 Be6 12.Bxe6 fxe6 13.O-O-O O-O]
10 .... Nxe4
11. Qf4
Hangs the knight. [11.Nxe4 Bxa1 12.c3 Bf5 13.O-O Bxe4]
11. ... Bxc3+
12. Ke2 d5
13. Rad1 Bg4+
14. f3
Mate in 7.[14.Kf1 Bxd1 15.Bd3 Nxg5 16.Qxg5 avoids and immediate loss, though it doesn't really matter by this point.]
[b] 13 ... Qf2+
0-1

Good game, well played. You took advantage of his later mistakes very well.

As best I know the Dragon is far from refuted!

Yeah, always bothers me, as black I always end up playing the dragon against e4, I just really like the position but everywhere most people say it's not a good oppening, I even play it against a friend of mine who knows alot about classical oppenings and it gets him a far more often than it apparently should.

Also thanks to everyone for the feedback, much appreciated, especially the game annalysis from Positional Player.
