Hi All,

I have read a lot of remarks suggesting that OTB is different than correspondance.

How do I become a better OTB player? Blitz? use chess program at 30 min?

Thanks,

Ivan

Play a lot OTB,play mainly against stronger opposition, afterwards ask your opponent to join you in a post mortem, analyse those games at home,at home maybe use an engine to check for missed tactics, play over master games.

Remember me when you get that final GM norm 😀

To improve at OTB play, I generally tried to play as many tournaments as possible, practiced tactics puzzles on the computer (two good CDs are Chess Tactics for Beginners and Chess Tactics for Intermediate Players), as well as study the endgames appropriate for my level (Silman's Complete Endgame Course), and then to use the database in Fritz to find games between strong players (2400+) that use my openings and then to study those. The results have been decent, In the almost 3 years since I started studying, my rating improved from 1100 USCF to a bit under 1900 USCF

By joining a chess club in your area. Good luck.

... Or even start your own club.
You could call it something like 'the Ivan-only chess club' and not let anyone else join.
Should have a good few members after a while. 😛
