I just wanted to take a look at that chesstempo.com site which everyone talks about, and I loved it!. Finally, I have made up my mind and forgiven myself from that stupid CTS torture. What was I thinking?
Solving a puzzle in 9 seconds and getting punished for it? Being encouraged to play without calculating anything? In a site where "Patzer sees a check, patzer plays a check" approach brings better ratings than analysing positions? Sweeping the floor with a ridiculous rating which any beginner achieves within a few weeks, only because I want to actually use my brain?
come on people! give it up! free yourself. You know it, and I know it, it's just a bad addiction!
Originally posted by EmLaskerNo, they are different approaches. Each has its pros and cons. CTS is about building better intuition while ChessTempo is more like a game situation where precise analysis rules. Neither is a good representation of tactical strength as in a game situation and neither has inflated ratings, just different systems and pools.
CTS is just harder, I notice how you only have a 1342 rating on CTS, it just proves your imcompetence. the only reason you like chesstempo is because of its hyperinflated rating!
Originally posted by exigentskyactually, last time I checked (a long time ago) chesstempo ratings had inflated about 800 points I think. meaning that's how much my peers had gained even though our cts ratings remained roughly equal.
...and neither has inflated ratings, just different systems and pools.
not that it matters much though... it's just a number.
