yes, poor play by him..
But the Nc6 variation should player with d5, and f4, then e5 and d6 and not e5 and Bc4, that is good in the Ng6 variation.
How did you win this ?
Did you look at the game I posted ? you can always see them as if you are going to play the halloween
http://www.chessville.com/UCO/Halloween_Gambit/UON13HalloweenGambit.pdf. maybe usefull.

On which the autour present maybe beautifull, you need to know, not too shaby, a good lot of theory...
its a brilliant opening ... happy halloween 🙂
but alas flawed ... but in blitz it's great fun, there was a guy at this club i played in who quickly spotted how to refute it ...i put it through cm8000 .. let it run all night n alas the sod was right ...
found this a while back if it helps

There is no refutation of the halloween gambit yet, but I agree to say that in some lines, white is having a hard to fight, he is struggling, but he is not lost, with pecise play, he can live trought.
The Nc6 lines are drawish and Ng6 are not, in the later, white must exchange pawns to attack black king, he have good chance.
Sorry, but no refutation yet.
Show us what he play....
Originally posted by AudreyxSophieHi Audrey ... this is what he played ... not my invention...I put this through my computer a few times and black seems to have enough space to defend. The book in cm8000 recommends d6, not d5 but this seems to loose a few moves later.... i think black has to give up a pawn to get out of trouble... also have seen after e5, black replying with Bb4 , after

Hi.
I can tell you I know the variation you are talking about.
I can tell you that d6 is considered as the main line in the Ng6 variation.
but the variation with d5. do not be scared. just take that pawn and show him a real pawn storm. If he follow with Bb4, Qf3 make him not so good, now black need a compensation, because he is down in material
Normally, it should be okay for white.
it is not the most fearfull variation.
You have a pawn storm with ... d5.
Let me show you a game, with that variation.
Black can't avoid mate... He is done.
That Qe1 move was attack the poor knight, who could not move anymore, winning it.
This is a pawn storm.
