The above notation is what translated to chessbase 9 AFTER I copied and pasted in your game. I got exactly the same thing, and it appears the problem starts with Black's 28th move, which gets changed from cb=Q to Bxe5. It appears that Black's 28th move and White's 29th move disappear.

I have no idea why. Certainly bizarre!

I hate that abbreviated notation for pawn captures. I would write cxb1=Q, but I know many people would just write cxb=Q. In my experience people who miss out the 'x' only do so when the pawn is capturing a pawn.

it seems to be the lack of rank number that throws chessbase off. both cxb1=Q and cb1=Q work fine. at least on chessbase 9.

I'm glad it's a bug not just me. really weird.

Thanks.

Thanks.
I'd tend to view it more as operator error than a bug. 😉

Yes, operator error. If the device fails to recognize what you are doing, you are the one making the error 😉

Odd stuff. So in chessbase cb=Q translates to Bxe5.I added fritz as analyses engine and it gives 28....,Bxe5 as the best move.Interesting.

Then I tried this:
1. e4 e5 2. d4 exd4 3. c3 dxc3 4. Nf3 cxb2 5. Bg5 ba = Q 6. Bxd8 Kxd8

which translates to this:

The black queen got knighted 🙄

Hi

There is a bug in CB8 that does wierd things if the notation
is not 100% CB9 has it fixed. (or has it?)
